I have soft spot for penguins and I've just been to Edinburgh, so here goes...
Nils Olov a resident of Edinburgh Zoo was knighted by the British Maj. Gen. Euan Loudon on behalf of Norway's King Harald V two weeks ago. The king (of course) penguin has already medals for good conduct and long service as well as being honorary colonel-in-chief of the elite Norwegian King's Guard.
Nils Olov became the mascot of The King's Guard back in 1972 and is actually Nils Olov number 3. The original Nils Olov died in 1980 has since then been replaced twice.
Before receiving his knighthood he traditionally reviewed the troops with his colonel-in-chief badge tied to his flipper and then waddled into history as the first penguin that can to be called Sir.
