On Wednesday it was time for another wine testing. This time comparing wines from the old and new world. Two Pinot Noirs and two Cabernets. Very similar, but also very different. To make things simple. Old world wines are for wine cellar storage and new world wines are for drink right now.
Lynmar Russian River Pinot Noir 2003
Californian Pinot Noir. Red purplish colour with a strong smell of red berries. The taste is quite fruity as well, with some hints of old hay and leaves.
Aloxe-Corton 2002
French Pinot Noir from Bourgogne. Raspberry coloured with a spicy smell that disappears quickly. Strong taste of oak casks with a hint of vanilla. Would be even better after a couple of years in a wine cellar.
Château Cantemerle 2002
French Cabernet from Bordeaux. Dark red colour close to dark bricks. Smells a lot like plums and dark berries. Oak taste along with herbs and some chocolate. Would be even better after a couple of years in a wine cellar.
Chakana Estate Selection 2004
Argentinean Cabernet. Dark red colour close to blue. Fruity and spicy smell with some raisins. Taste of oak with plums, dark berries and some chocolate.
