I really wanted to trust the calendar during June and believe it was summer, but no. Outside it was cold or rainy or both. Despite bad weather summer is BBQ time and grilled meat requires some nice full-bodied wines from Penfolds and d’Arenberg. Both which was one of the first wines I bought to my cellar after having fallen in love with Aussie wine. Needless to say, now 5 years later they were perfect to grilled meat. Even TheMan who adores Italian wines had to admit they were perfect.
My knowledge of Bordeaux wines are still rather limited so whenever I get the chance to taste and learn new things I’m very happy. Tasting a 2006 Chateau Talbot, Grand Cru Classe, Saint-Julien at some friends’ house a Friday night was the perfect start of the weekend. Good depth of stewed fruit, smoke and spicy on the nose. Lovely elegant palate with rich red fruit. A typical Medoc and classic Chateau Talbot I was told.
