Best experience of October

On one of the first autumn evenings we were invited to some friends’ house for a California themed dinner. Bottles that had been brought over to Europe in suitcases and carry-on luggage.

First out Bonterra Chardonnay from Mendocino County. Yellow colour. Fruity with those typical traits from a Californian, chardonnay, i.e. oak, butter and vanilla.

Then it was time for 2013 A. Rafanelli Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma. Deep dark purple colour. Rich, luxurious, full bodied palate of blueberries mixed with blackberries, raspberries, mint, pepper and spice ending with a very long finish.

Number three and final wine was also from Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma. 2013 Michel-Schlumberger Zinfandel Gold Collection. Dark ruby colour. Concentrated blackberries, fresh plum with notes of vanilla and spice. Dense structure but still a very lush mouth feel.
